Effects of COVID-19 on Term 1 Week 1

Monday 1 February, 2021

In line with the State Government’s announcement of the five-day lockdown commencing Sunday 31 January 6pm to Friday 5 February 6pm, the College will remain closed, following the lockdown measures. It is in effect an extension of the school holidays, therefore no online learning is required at this stage.

Our community including staff, teachers, parents and students health and safety is of utmost importance. Aligning with this priority is your child’s education. While observing the lockdown measures, the Mercedes College staff are working remotely and will be available at your request, to answer any course questions you may have. It is hoped classes will resume next week, however all teachers are preparing for online learning similar to Term 1 2020, if further lockdown is required.

All events planned for this week are postponed (Excellence Assembly, Graduate Alumni Sundowner, Mercedes Day and Year 7 Transition Week) and the community will be kept informed of new dates or changes as they occur.  At this stage, the tour booked for Monday 8 February is proceeding.  All parents will be contacted should further cancellations be required.

All updates will be made available via email or social media.

We are delighted and excited that we will be welcoming ALL our students back to school on Monday 8 February.
The most important aspect of the continuing restrictions will be a requirement for all staff members and students in Years 7 to 12 to wear a mask at school.  We ask that you provide your own mask next week, however supplies of masks for staff and students will also be available.
Please be aware that Year 7 students and new students in Years 8 to 12 will take part in a Transition Week, commencing on Monday at 7:45am.  A detailed email has also been sent to Parents and Guardians regarding commencement and should answer any questions you may have. Thank you to everyone for your support during this time.
