Two Mercedes students, Rachael Stevenson and Maddison Roberts alongside teacher Miss Gillian Lugton, attended the Young Mercy Leaders Pilgrimage, held at the Mercy International Centre in Baggot Street, Dublin from Friday 12 July to Thursday 25 July. The Pilgrimage was attended by students all over Ireland, England, America, Belize and Australia. The main focus of the Pilgrimage was to explore what Mercy is, where it comes from, the work of Mercy International, and how as young leaders they can develop our leadership skills and knowledge so that we may bring Mercy into our schools.
The Conference was held over four days, and the students made an action plans so that could make practical changes to Mercy schools all around the world. When not attending the conference, the Australian delegates toured both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, visiting both places of significant historical places and historical Mercy sites.
The Pilgrimage was an experience they will never forget. Ireland is a beautiful country with a wealth of history. The girls involved were fortunate to have participated in this experience and now have many new and amazing friends throughout the world. We look forward to beginning our action plan at Mercedes.
