A pandemic wasn’t going to stop us from having our annual Interhouse Athletics Carnival this year. Students from Year 7-12 made their way to the State Athletics Centre on 28 July ready for a great day of friendly rivalry, competing in track and field, and novelty events.
With excellence as one of our Mercy values, it was great to see girls showing tremendous spirit working together in the novelty events and having a go in some of the track and field events when others were absent. The 4 x 100m relays providing an exciting finish as all Houses competed for the final points. The Year 12’s saw their last carnival as a great opportunity to ensure they gave 100% support to each other and to their House, and celebrated in fine form in front of their peers.
Congratulations to McAuley House for winning the Athletics Shield again (the third year in a row) and to their three Age Champions. There were some outstanding records broken including Hannah Doyle (Year 9, Javelin 27.48m), Neve McAlister (Year 9, 800m 2.35.09 mil-sec), Imogen Herrington (Year 10, 200m – 27.62 sec) and Niamh Glynn (Year 11, Highjump smashing the record at 1.50m). Well done also to Cooper House for winning the Novelty Event Shield.
