The special Mercedes Mental Health Week (29 October – 1 November) was created to help break the stigma that comes with mental health. A display in the library showed students that a lot of the celebrities they follow struggle with mental health and get help – it was to let students know that they can get help, and where they can access it. A variety of activities were held including a ‘Nailed it’ competition, based on the Netflix series where a student had to decorate a cake representing the theme mental health. Congratulations to the two winners – Marissa Mezzatesta and Lucy Wilmot’s group.
Friday was a gold coin donation ‘Get Creative with your Hair For Mental Health’ where all students and staff came up with some interesting hair creations. At the last count we raised $99! The donations will go to NeuRa, a not-for-profit neuro research institute who have been raising money to be able to do ground-breaking research into depression, anxiety, schizophrenia and bipolar disorders. A ‘Looking after your Mental Health Scavenger Hunt’ also provided some lunchtime fun for the Year 7s. It was quite a successful week and students were able to get a bit out of it.
