Sports Prefects Crowned Champion and Runner-Up at Interhouse Athletics Carnival
The 2026 Athletics Carnival was filled with incredible performances, but one of the day’s standout moments came from our Sports Prefects, Macy and Claudia, who truly embodied the spirit of Mercedes College.
As Sports Prefects, Macy and Claudia are passionate advocates for sport across the College. They actively encourage students to get involved in coaching, athletics, sporting teams and the wide range of opportunities available, inspiring girls to pursue their sporting ambitions with confidence.
Their passion was on full display at this year’s Athletics Carnival. Between them, Macy and Claudia were awarded Champion Girl and Runner-Up Champion Girl for the Year 12 cohort, an outstanding achievement that reflects their dedication, determination and love of sport.
One of the most memorable moments of the day came during the high jump. In a thrilling display of friendly competition, the two continued to match each other’s jumps, refusing to back down as the bar was raised higher and higher. Surrounded by cheering Year 12 students, the atmosphere was electric as classmates encouraged both competitors with equal enthusiasm. While fiercely competitive, Macy and Claudia demonstrated that true sport is about more than winning, it is about lifting each other up, celebrating one another’s successes and embracing the strength of sisterhood.
After an unforgettable contest, the pair finished tied for first place with an impressive jump of 1.40 metres, a fitting result for two students who have inspired so many throughout their final year at Mercedes College.
Watching Macy and Claudia compete with such determination, while continually supporting and encouraging one another, was a powerful reminder of what makes our College community so special. Their leadership extends far beyond their prefect badges, and they leave a lasting legacy of sportsmanship, resilience and sisterhood for future generations of Mercedes girls.
