As we approach the end of the term, we are delighted to share that the examinations for our Years 11 and 12 students have now concluded. We commend our students for their hard work and dedication during this challenging period. Their perseverance and commitment to their studies has been truly admirable. Our Year 10 students have followed suit and have been immersed in examinations this week.
The College thanked our Parents & Friends Association Executives and Members at the Annual Community Meeting this Monday. We farewelled departing members, including outgoing President Mrs Leesa Vinciullo, Dads of Mercedes (DoMs) Representative Mr Richard Partridge and Alumni Representative Mrs Rita Panebianco. Leesa has done a wonderful job of leading these generous parents as the President over the years. I am pleased to share that Leesa will be handing the baton to Mrs Siobhan Budrovich, who will step into the role of President of the P&F from next year. Siobhan has been instrumental this year in collaborating with our Mums of Mercedes (MoMs). We bid farewell to Richard who has been a very active member of our Dads of Mercedes (DoMs). We look forward to further growth across these important community groups.
Our Year 10 Business students showcased their entrepreneurial skills by running their own small businesses this term, demonstrating creativity, teamwork, and a spirit of generosity by donating their profits to our College’s charitable initiatives.
In the Arts, our annual Art & Design Exhibition transformed the Serisier Learning Centre into a stunning gallery, celebrating the creativity, hard work and persistence of students from Years 7-12. Congratulations to all our student artists and award winners for their inspiring work. A virtual tour of the exhibition will be available soon for those who missed this event or would like another chance to view the amazing pieces.
We welcomed our incoming Year 7 students last week during Orientation Day, where they experienced the warmth and excitement of joining the Mercedes College community. Their day concluded with a Music ‘Have a Go’ Afternoon, offering a glimpse into the joy of music-making with our talented tutors.
Year 10 students prepared for their upcoming House Dragon Boat Race with a practice session led by the Perth Pirates Dragon Boat Club. Our Year 7 Reflection Days provided our youngest students an opportunity to pause, reflect, and connect through meaningful activities and themes of kindness and growth.
Our First Nations students engaged in a moving excursion to the former offices of A. O. Neville, now a space dedicated to healing and support. Members of the Alma Beard Committee were inspired by a visit from Alumna Caitlin Beresford-Ord, who shared her experiences performing in “21 Hearts: Vivian Bullwinkel and the Nurses of the Vyner Brooke.”
In student leadership, our Year 11s embraced their future roles as Year 12s during their retreat at the serene Serpentine Camping Centre, while our 2025 Year 10 Peer Mentors were officially commissioned, and the 2025 Prefects began their training days, to lead with courage and vision.
I extend my gratitude to our dedicated staff and families who continue to support and inspire our students. Your commitment is at the heart of everything we achieve together.
