As we pass the midpoint of Term 4, it’s a joy to reflect on the many achievements and experiences our students have recently shared.
Our annual Presentation Evening at the Perth Concert Hall was a true celebration of excellence, as students and staff were recognised for their achievements in academics, arts, sport, and leadership. The performances by our Jazz Band, Elite Dance Team, and Select Choir made the evening memorable, with ‘Mercy is Bold’ beautifully embodying the spirit of our community. A heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make the night such a success.
Our upcoming Art & Design Exhibition next week promises to showcase the talents of our students in a variety of mediums. We look forward to welcoming families to celebrate their creativity with us. Our Year 11 French students had the opportunity to share their learning achievements in the Alliance Française exam, earning them high credits and distinctions — truly an effort worth celebrating!
Our students’ enthusiasm for learning has been evident in several enriching experiences. The Bell Shakespeare company’s visit brought the works of the Bard to life, captivating our Year 9s with unforgettable performances. Meanwhile, Year 8s explored Earth Science hands-on, discovering the fascinating properties of rocks with guidance from Australian Earth Science’s, Jo Watkins.
The last fortnight also provided opportunities for athletic growth and teamwork. Our Mercedes triathletes had a great day at the All-Schools Triathlon, with special mentions to Jessica Boyes and Matilda Young for their impressive finishes. At the ACC ISP Multi-Sport Day Carnival, students embraced a variety of sports, from Indigenous games to rugby, with the support of our Year 10 helpers, who demonstrated leadership and inclusivity. Congratulations to all who participated, embodying the spirit of Mercedes in every challenge.
We are especially proud of Year 7 student Evelyn Bullock, who represented Australia at the Malaysian Borneo Girls Football Cup and contributed to her team’s victorious run. Evelyn’s selection for the WA State Futsal Team is a testament to her commitment to the sport, and we can’t wait to see her continue to shine.
Our Peer Mentors for 2025 recently completed training to prepare them to support our incoming Year 7 students. Through sessions on leadership, mental health, and communication, they are now ready to provide guidance and encouragement, ensuring our newest students feel welcomed and valued from day one.
Last weekend, we were thrilled to host the 50-year reunion for our Class of 1974. It was a truly heartwarming afternoon bringing together friends who hadn’t seen each other in decades, sparking laughter and nostalgia that echoed from their days at Mercedes.
A number of students have been engaging in the history and community of Perth through recent excursions. Miss Gomes’ class explored local history at the Subiaco Museum, while a group of Year 8s experienced the vibrant, interactive environment of the Scribblers Festival. These experiences foster curiosity and help our students appreciate the stories that shape our city.
Our P&F are desperately calling for parent volunteers to help them serve morning tea on Monday 11 November, Year 7 2025 Orientation. If you are available to assist them, please contact them by email pandf@mercedes.wa.edu.au. Thank you in advance.
Thank you to all families, staff, and community members who continue to encourage our students in their journeys, especially those supporting students completing their exams.
