National Reconciliation Week
We acknowledged National Sorry Day and the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families and communities known as ‘The Stolen Generations’. In our Reconciliation Week from 27 May until 3 June, two key dates were acknowledged, the referendum of 27 May 1967 and the High Court Mabo decision on 3 June 1992. The theme for this year is ‘Be a Voice for Generations’.
On Friday, as a staff, we will reflect on the Stolen Generation and what they endured as part of our Cultural Education Training provided by Madalah. This training will provide an overview of Indigenous History as well as a focus on the Stolen Generations. Family kinships/structures and how to provide a culturally safe environment for students will also be explored.
We aim to work as a community to create a more just, equitable and reconciled country for all Australians as we remain true to our Mercy values of compassion and justice.

Examinations
Our Year 12 students are currently completing examinations with Years 11 and 10 to follow. Students are very committed to their studies and keen to do well. It is important as a community to work together to support their efforts but also to remind them that it is quite normal for students to experience some nervousness at examination time. Working hard throughout the year helps to alleviate some of the tension as it promotes a consistent approach. I wish all students well as they complete their examinations.
Kind regards,
Mrs Kerrie Fraser, College Principal
