At the end of Term 3 six of our Year 10 STEM students were fortunate to be invited to participate in three days of work experience at Woodside alongside two students from other schools. It was a wonderful opportunity for these students to see what it was like to be an engineer inside Woodside. Over the three days the girls participated in a range of activities including having a tour of the building, meeting and talking with engineers about their career journeys, and exploring Woodside’s offshore facilities via a Virtual Reality session. On Day 2 and 3 they enjoyed an interactive session about seismic and reservoir engineering where they used layers of bread, vegemite, paper straws and sprinkles to represent oil and gas exploration, they were shown through an engineering problem, and learnt more about subsea engineering. The girls were very enthusiastic about the experience.
Taylor Harris said the Woodside experience taught her to learn as she grows, and to accept the challenges that make life interesting.
