Presentation Evening Awards Criteria

Each award presented on Presentation Evening reflects the dedication, growth and achievements of our students throughout the year. This page honours the excellence demonstrated across all areas of school life, and the values that underpin our community.

Advisory Council Outstanding Teacher Award

This is awarded to an outstanding educator who inspires a love of learning within students. (The recipient is nominated by students, parents and staff members.

All Rounder Inclusive Education Award

Awarded to the student who has demonstrated herself in academic effort and Inclusive Education activities.

Mercedes College Alumni Year 7 Scholarship

These scholarships are awarded to two students who have accepted a position to enter Year 7 the following year and whose mother or grandmother is a Mercedes College Alumna.

Mercy Education ‘Shining Lamp’ Award

Awarded to one current student from each Mercy School who exemplifies the values of Compassion, Justice, Respect, Hospitality, Service and Courage through their leadership and everyday actions within their school and wider community.

Ursula Frayne Community Member Award

This award recognises an individual, family, group or organisation for their outstanding contribution to Mercedes College. The recipient is passionate about their area of contribution and is generous in sharing their time and talents with the school community. (The recipient is nominated by students, parents and staff members.)

AMPOL Best All Rounder: Year 12

Awarded to the student who has distinguished herself in academic effort, cultural and sporting pursuits, leadership and service to Mercedes College.

Australian Defence Force Future Innovations Award: Year 10 and 12

Australian Defence Force Future also sponsor the Future Innovators Awards. The awards formally recognise those students who have demonstrated motivation and innovation in the areas of STEM and who display personal ethical values such as doing one’s best.

Australian Defence Force Long Tan Leadership & Teamwork Award: Year 10 and 12

The Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork Awards are sponsored by the Australian Defence Forces and aim to recognise students who demonstrate leadership and teamwork within both the school and the broader local community. At the same time, they recognise those who display strong values, such as doing one’s best, respect for others and “mateship”, that are integral to Australian society.

Gold Fields Futures Program (Women in STEM)

The Women in STEM is a bursary awarded to secondary students studying Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects in Year 11 and 12 and continues to provide support should they obtain a tertiary qualification in a STEM related field. It also provides access to graduate programs, peer support and mentoring to successful recipients. 

Ngala Kwop Biddi Brighter Futures Scholarship

This scholarship is sponsored by Murdoch University and is awarded to a Year 12 student who demonstrates commendable leadership in Sustainability, or Equity, Diversity and Inclusions, or First Nations leadership.

Academic Excellence: Year 7

Awarded to students for high achievement across Religious Education, English, Mathematics, Science and Social Sciences.

House Spirit: Year 7

This award recognises a student who exemplifies the heart of House life—bringing energy, encouragement, and a strong sense of belonging to her peers. Her commitment to sisterhood and active participation strengthens the bonds within her House and contributes to a vibrant school community.

Subject Award: Year 7

One subject prize is awarded to the top performer in each subject.

Sportswoman of the Year: Year 7

Awarded to students who have represented Mercedes in the highest number of sporting teams to an exceptional standard. Representation may be as a player and/or in a coaching role, with both roles contributing to the recognition of excellence.

Year 7 Mercy Value of Compassion Award

This award recognises a Year 7 student who embodies compassion through her everyday choices, reflecting the spirit of Mercy and contributing to a nurturing and respectful school and community environment.

Academic Excellence: Year 8

Awarded to students for high achievement across Religious Education, English, Mathematics, Science and Social Sciences.

Academic Growth: Year 8

Academic growth awards are to recognise students who have demonstrated the largest academic improvement across Mathematics, English, Social Sciences, Science and Religion between Semester 1 reports 2024 and Semester 1 reports 2025.

House Spirit: Year 8

This award recognises a student who exemplifies the heart of House life—bringing energy, encouragement, and a strong sense of belonging to her peers. Her commitment to sisterhood and active participation strengthens the bonds within her House and contributes to a vibrant school community.

Sportswoman of the Year: Year 8

Awarded to students who have represented Mercedes in the highest number of sporting teams to an exceptional standard. Representation may be as a player and/or in a coaching role, with both roles contributing to the recognition of excellence.

Year 8 Mercy Value of Justice Award

This award recognises a Year 8 student who lives out the value of justice through her commitment to fairness and her courage to speak and act with conviction, reflecting the Mercy tradition of standing with others in solidarity.

Year 11 Mercy Value of Excellence Award

This award recognises a Year 11 student who pursues excellence not only in achievement but in character, inspiring others through her commitment and integrity.

Academic Honours: Year 12

Awarded to students showing outstanding achievement meriting “A”s for 18 course units with no result less than a “C” grade in all Schools Curriculum and Standards Authority courses (ATAR or General) across Years 11 and 12.

Dux: Year 12

Awarded to the Highest Achieving student with a minimum of 5 ATAR courses.

Highest Predicted ATAR: Year 12

Awarded to the student who has achieved the highest predicted ATAR based on recent trial ATAR exams.

The Marie-Noelle Vieira Award for Excellence in French

Awarded to the student who has demonstrated excellence in French as the highest performer in French: Second Language ATAR.

Mercedes College Alumni Year 12 Award “Living the Mercy Values”

This peer nominated award is sponsored by the Mercedes College Alumni Association in recognition of the practical ways Mercy has been lived by a Year 12 student. It reflects development over time at the College in regard to living and embodying the Mercedes College Mercy values of Excellence, Compassion, Service, Integrity, Justice and Hope.

Mercedes Medal: Year 12

Awarded to students who have made an outstanding contribution to the College community in a number of areas during their years at Mercedes. These areas could include religious, cultural, academic or sporting activities, as well as community service involvement, leadership, peer support and role modelling.

House Spirit Awards: Year 12

This award recognises a student who exemplifies the heart of House life—bringing energy, encouragement, and a strong sense of belonging to her peers. Her commitment to sisterhood and active participation strengthens the bonds within her House and contributes to a vibrant school community.

Proxime Accessit: Year 12

Awarded to the runner up to the Dux.

Subject Award: Year 12

Sportswoman of the Year: Year 12

Awarded to students who have represented Mercedes in the highest number of sporting teams to an exceptional standard. Representation may be as a player and/or in a coaching role, with both roles contributing to the recognition of excellence.

Vocational Education & Training Award: Year 12

The Vocational Education and Training Award recognises a student’s successful completion of a nationally recognised certificate qualification, strong achievement in Workplace Learning, and excellent results in courses of study.

Year 12 Mercy Value of Hope Award

This award recognises a Year 12 student who brings hope to the school community, encouraging others to look forward with confidence and compassion.
