Dear Mercedes College Families
It has been such a joy watching our students approach these final weeks of the year with positivity, determination, and a wonderful sense of community. There is a real feeling of momentum on campus as each cohort brings their year to a close in their own meaningful way.
Our Year 11 students wrapped up their exams at the end of last week and are now enjoying their retreat, a well-earned opportunity to pause, reflect, and reconnect before stepping into their final year of schooling. At the same time, our Year 12 students have nearly completed their WACE examinations. We hope they can now take a deep breath and celebrate the culmination of their secondary education.
It has been a fulsome two weeks for our Year 7 students, who embraced both their Activity Day and Reflection Day with maturity and enthusiasm. These experiences encouraged them to consider compassion, community, and personal growth as part of their journey at Mercedes.

The energy continued into the start of this week as we welcomed our 2026 Year 7 students to campus for Orientation Day. It was delightful to see so many excited faces exploring their new school, meeting staff, making connections, and taking their first steps into the next stage of their education. It is hard to believe that this group of young people will be our Graduating Class of 2031!
Supporting this orientation transition was our newly selected group of 2026 Year 10 Peer Mentors. We had 60 Year 9 students elected this year to these important ‘big sister’ roles in 2026, each bringing empathy, leadership, and a genuine desire to support our incoming Year 7s. They completed their first peer mentor training session last week, and we know they will rise to the occasion next year as welcoming and encouraging role models.

I would like to acknowledge the students who took on the tremendous challenge of the solo triathlon a couple of weeks ago. This demanding experience included a 400m swim, 12km bike ride, and 3km run. The event pushed each participant to dig deep. The display of resilience and determination was inspiring. Special congratulations to Matilda (Year 8), who was the first Mercedes athlete across the finish line, and to Mabel who was our first Year 7 student to complete the solo course.

As we move towards the final stretch of the year, I continue to be grateful for the spirit, kindness, and commitment shown by our students and staff. We look forward to the celebrations, milestones, and learning still to come as we conclude 2025 together.
Warm Regards,
Dr Lucie McCrory
