It is hard to believe that we are nearly at the end of Term 3, and soon we will be farewelling our inspiring group of Year 12 students as they transition from student to graduate and become part of our proud alumni. This week also saw the closing ceremony of The Spirit of the Arts Festival, and I am delighted to share the outstanding performances of our girls. The Combined Mercedes and Trinity Wind Orchestra won the prestigious University of Notre Dame Award, and individual student achievements were equally impressive, as detailed below. Congratulations to all participants.

We recently celebrated some wonderful community events with our Year 9 Social as well as the Media Production & Analysis Film Night, where our Media students showcased their work at the iconic Windsor Cinema in Nedlands.

We welcomed over 120 families to our Open Day last week, where they had the opportunity to tour our vibrant campus and experience the spirit of Mercedes College firsthand. Our Year 10 student tour guides did a fantastic job as ambassadors of the school leading the families, sharing their experiences, and answering questions. A heartfelt thank you to our staff and students for their efforts in showcasing our wonderful school and making this a memorable day for our future students and their families.
Last week, I had the pleasure of listening to our prospective Year 12 2025 Student Leaders share their aspirations for the role of Head Girl. The theme for their speeches was ‘Hope’, a value central to Mercedes College. Each speech was thoughtful and inspiring, offering a glimpse into the leadership qualities these young women will bring as the Graduating Class of 2025. I was deeply impressed by their maturity, passion, and vision, and I look forward to seeing them continue to grow in leadership.
On Tuesday this week our Parents & Friends Association and the Advisory Council viewed fly throughs of the initial concepts for the Hall transformation next year. It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm from both groups as we prepare for this exciting capital development renovation.
We celebrated McGrath Day, with students and staff coming together to raise over $3,200 in support of breast cancer care. The event featured a thrilling Mercedes v Trinity netball match, and the school spirit was on full display.

Additionally, the Parents & Friends Association hosted the Great Mercedes Quiz Night, which was a roaring success with over 360 attendees enjoying the fun-filled evening. Thank you to everyone involved in making the event such a memorable one.

In staffing news, we are delighted to announce that Viktoria Masel will be joining Mercedes College in 2025 as Head of Health and Physical Education. Viktoria, who comes to us from Servite College, has a deep understanding of the Mercy values from her time at Santa Maria and is a seasoned educator and sportswoman, with experience as a SCSA Marker for Physical Education Studies at ATAR level.
A new newsletter called ‘Futures Feed’ from our Future Pathways team has been introduced this week. Designed to keep our students informed and inspired, this newsletter will feature upcoming events, workshops, and exclusive opportunities that will help them explore their passions and plan for their future. Click here to read the first edition.
Lastly, as we continue transitioning to our new management system, please be aware that some account services may be temporarily impacted during Week 10. Our finance team is completing the necessary training, and we appreciate your patience as we work to improve our systems for the future.
As Term 3 ends, we can reflect on what has been a busy and rewarding few months and look forward to celebrating the end of the term with our Mercy Day festivities next Friday. The next edition of Sorellé will be published in Week 1 of Term 4.
