Principal Report
Dear Mercedes College Families
As we approach the end of Term 2, our community can take pride in the momentum and spirit that have defined the past couple of weeks. Our Year 12 students have completed their semester one exams, marking a significant milestone as they step into the final stages of their school journey. Meanwhile, our Year 10 students are preparing for their own exams, a reminder of the resilience and focus required at this stage of the academic year.
This term, Mercedes College had the privilege of hosting the Mercy Pilgrimage ‘Walking in the Footsteps of Ursula Frayne’ during the Australasian Mercy Secondary School Association (AMSSA) Conference, which was run over three days at Santa Maria College. Thank you to staff members Ms Lendich, Miss Guida, Mrs Roberts, Miss Lugton, Ms Wares, Mr Slotwinski, Ms Browne, Ms Dell, Ms Maher, Miss Mitic, Ms Swain, Mrs Di Stefano and Mr Njirich who played a role in the success of the pilgrimage experience. The conference welcomed over 120 Mercy educators from across Australia and New Zealand. It was a true celebration of faith, learning, and connection, as the wider Mercy Education community came together. The event highlighted the depth and richness of Mercy education while showcasing the warmth, spirit, and strength of our partnerships. From insightful workshops to the inspiring opening and closing keynotes by Marist Brother and ACU Academic, Br David Hall, and the Mercy focused dinner keynote by Dr Tania Hicks to name a few. The conference reflected the enduring values that unite us all. Our staff played a vital role in shaping the Pilgrimage experience, while others presented workshops and provided musical assistance. Thank you to Mrs Waterhouse, Mr Waterhouse, Mrs Murphy, Ms Spagnuolo and Mr Clark for your contributions to the conference. The pride and professionalism with which they represented Mercedes was both clear and commendable.

A highlight of the term’s social calendar was the Year 9 Social, held in partnership with Trinity College. After weeks of ballroom dancing lessons, the event brought students together in a joyful and celebratory environment. The students moved with confidence and flair, many of them wearing dresses and skirts they had designed themselves in Textiles -showcasing both their personal style and their skill. Events like this foster a sense of occasion, and strengthen friendships, social confidence, and school spirit in a meaningful way.

In the area of sport, our girls demonstrated incredible dedication and teamwork at the ACC Cross Country Carnival. Weeks of early morning training culminated in a day marked by determination, resilience, and true sportswomanship. Our girls competed with pride and focus, achieving impressive individual results across a range of year levels. Just as important was the support and encouragement they showed one another, truly embodying the values of integrity, community, and courage that define our sporting culture. A sincere thank you goes to the coaches and staff who supported the team throughout the season.

As we reflect on all we have accomplished this term, it is also timely to look ahead. In the passing weeks, Mercedes College has undergone a comprehensive school review process. This review involves input from students, staff, parents, and external reviewers, with the goal of deepening our understanding of what we do well and where we can continue to grow. It is an opportunity to listen, to learn, and to align our practices with the values and aspirations of our community. We look forward to sharing more information about this process soon.
In closing, I want to thank every member of our Mercedes College community for your ongoing commitment to our shared mission. The energy, effort, and generosity of our students, staff, and families continue to make our school a place of learning, belonging, and purpose. As we move forward with the insights and suggestions gathered through the review process, we remain focused on building a school that serves our current students and continues to grow as a community grounded in excellence, compassion, and Mercy.
Warm Regards,
Dr Lucie McCrory
