From the Principal: Term 2, Week 6 2024

Posted on 23/05/2024

Dear Parents & Caregivers

The campus has been quieter this week with our Year 12 students off site and on examinations. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they close out the first half of their learning for the 2024 academic year. The Year 11 students will join the Year 12s on examinations this coming week and the Year 10 students will follow shortly afterwards.

Our Year 9 students have been learning how to Ballroom Dance with the Trinity boys over the last month that will culminate in a Ballroom Dancing Social this afternoon. It is important for our girls to experience respectful and connected friendships with boys. Many of the Year 9 students shared their thoughts and funny stories with me at recess and lunch times. A big thank you to Head of Year 9, Miss Giuttari, Deputy Principal Pastoral Care, Mrs Quinn, and the Teachers who have supervised these series of events.

A massive congratulations to our wonderful Elite Dance Students who won the competition last weekend and came in as the highest scoring team overall. Particular thanks to our passionate and dedicated dance teacher Ms Robinson, and to all the performing girls. What an amazing accolade, and recognition of your talents and efforts.

On Wednesday night we hosted our Year 10 Parent and Student Information Expo Evening. The vibe was strong as the families circulated the Hall in awe of all that is on offer for our students in this current environment. Considering a post school destination is like planning for a holiday. You research the different destinations, imagine what a life in that field would be like and then you collaborate with professionals to plan your flight path! Our Head of Future Pathways and Partnerships, Mrs Spagnuolo, works closely with our Head of Year 10, Mr Dymnicki and our Deputy Principal Teaching and Learning, Mrs Murphy, to help students explore the possibilities. We then ensure they are taking the right path forward to move towards the desired destination.

Thank you to our Marketing Team who put together a montage from my experience of the Mercy Ministry Companions Mercy Pilgrimage to Dublin. You can enjoy the video reflection here. I intend to work with our Director of Faith and Mercy Charism, Ms Lendich, to explore a student immersion to a Mercy Pilgrimage in the near future.

Earlier this week it was announced on our LinkedIn that I was elected to the AISWA Board.  As a Catholic school Principal in the Mercy Tradition, it is entirely a privilege to be able to lead, serve, and advocate for students, families, and teachers; for our needs and future desires. We encourage our girls to get involved, and to have a voice. Therefore, we must lead by example and practice what we preach. I look forward to contributing to the Board in some small way, to support continuous educational improvement for student experience and safety of our schools.

If you are yet to purchase tickets to Bring It On, The Musical, at The Regal Theatre from Friday 26 to Sunday 28 July, please take advantage of a special discount being offered to the Mercedes College community. Just go to the Ticketek website and use the CODE, ‘Campbell’. You are welcome to share this with your friends, family and networks.

I will be on long service leave for a family commitment for the next three weeks. Mrs Natasha Quinn will be Acting Principal during this time, and Mrs Sherrin Adams will step into the Deputy Principal Pastoral Care position while also overseeing Year 12.

Wishing everyone a wonderful two weeks.

DR LUCIE MCCRORY
Principal
