From the Principal: Term 1, Week 9 2025

Principal Report

Dear Mercedes College Families

As we approach the end of Term One, it is timely to reflect on the events and activities that have enriched the life of our community in recent weeks. It has been a term marked by energy, engagement, and a sense of unity, with highlights that capture the spirit and values of our College.

Last week the College held its annual Open Day where we welcomed over 400 people to explore our beautiful campus. Our staff and students worked together to offer guided tours, showcasing our vibrant learning environment, and fostering a sense of welcome and belonging for prospective families. A heartfelt thank you to our Year 9 Student Tour Guides who approached their roles with exceptional poise and a great deal of pride in representing the College community.

On the sporting front, we were delighted to celebrate the achievements of our Mercedes College swim team at the ACC Division A Swimming Carnival. Securing 5th place in the Overall Female Team Score, a testament to the commitment to training and team spirit of our swimmers. Highlights include outstanding individual performances from Olivia, Carmen, Kate, Macy, and Charlotte, as well as exceptional teamwork and placings in the relay races, including the thrilling U19 Division 1 Relay seeing Stella, Charlotte, Paige, and Emily narrowly missing victory by only 0.02 seconds!

Unfortunately, it has come to our attention that we published incorrect participant information in the Parent Information Email last week for the swimmers in Division 2, under 13 Relay.  Brielle Baptista, Ebony Nye, and Zoe Wetton and Alexi Parker-Sutton secured second place in this event.

We could not be prouder of every swimmer who gave their best during training and on race day. You have represented Mercedes College with grace, determination, and true sportsmanship. Well done!

Throughout the term students have participated in unique opportunities for growth. Our Year 10 cohort distinguished themselves during “Reflection Day” where they engaged in activities fostering compassion, service, and social awareness. These initiatives allowed students to deepen their understanding of empathy and responsibility.

Our Year 11 and 12 students benefited from an inspiring Speed Mentoring Event. Alumni shared their professional journeys, offering guidance and encouragement that will undoubtedly shape the future pathways of our senior students.

Meanwhile, in the Performing Arts, our talented musicians participated in the Trinity College Quarry Concert, delivering exceptional performances in the stunning outdoor setting of the Quarry Amphitheatre in City Beach.

Additionally, engaging events such as the Year 8 Picnic on the Swan and the Year 7 Social with Mercedes and Trinity students brought joy and connection across year levels. These events continue to foster the strong sense of community that is such a defining feature of our College.

At the end of this term, we farewell Mrs Nicole Kirk, Ms Ros Slater, Mrs Michelle Beor and Mrs Krystenna Turner. We wish them all the best in their future endeavors and thank them for their invaluable contributions to our community.

With only one week remaining of Term One, I would like to express my gratitude to the students, staff, and families who make our community such a dynamic and supportive environment. It has been a tremendous start to the 2025 school year, and I look forward to the many milestones that await us in the coming months.

Regards

Lucie McCrory
