Being in the city has lots of learning benefits for students. The College’s IT Angels recently went on a field trip to the city’s Apple Store with a group of their Year 7 to 9 peers. The excursion helped to foster interest in technology workplaces and enabled students to have conversations and develop connections with city businesses in the IT Industy. Students worked with Apple professionals to learn about creative workflows in app prototyping. The work will help inform the groups’ Phone Home Agency app which is the the development phase. College alumni who work in the store spoke about the importance of the transferable skills they developed while at Mercedes College and especially in their extra-curricular activities. Aside from the STEM skills, employers such as Apple, increasingly require the softer skills like collaboration, communication, empathy and critical thinking. The IT Angels is a cocurricular club for students interested in technology and provide support to their peers and teachers throughout the year.
