Principal Report
Dear Mercedes College Families
As we approach the halfway mark of the term, I am amazed at how quickly time has flown by. It has been a busy and productive few weeks, filled with many memorable moments and achievements. This week we commenced the Lenten period, marked by a beautiful whole-school Ash Wednesday Prayer Liturgy. This forward 40 days is a period of time carved out by the Church for our reflection and repentance, for prayer and almsgiving. It is a time to be honest with ourselves, about our shortcomings and to seek forgiveness, remembering to be kind and compassionate towards ourselves and others, as we strive to improve. This balance of honesty and kindness can lead to a more meaningful and transformative Lenten journey, and hence a movement towards growth and living life to the full.

We recently celebrated our two House masses, which were beautiful expressions of our faith and community spirit. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the members of the Advisory Council and P&F along with other community members who attended and supported these events.
Our International Women’s Day breakfast was another highlight, with 150 attendees coming together to celebrate the theme #AccelerateAction. A special thank you to Kate O’Hara, CEO of Foodbank WA, for her inspiring presence. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate International Women’s Day as an all-girls school, and I am grateful for the support and enthusiasm shown by everyone involved.

The Swim Carnival was another fantastic event, showcasing the strong House spirit and enthusiasm both in and out of the pool. Congratulations to Serisier House for emerging as the champions, and a special shoutout to Charlotte in Year 12 for breaking the Year 12 50m Breaststroke record. Your achievements are truly commendable!
Our ACC Junior Basketball Championships A Team remained undefeated, and our B Team lost only one game in their competition—an outstanding effort from our Year 7-9 basketballers!

Kindness Week initiatives have also been a significant focus, and I am proud to see how our students have created paper kindness gardens filled with motivation messages across the school, reflecting the girls’ commitment to spreading kindness. Every day, I witness acts of kindness and hear stories from the public about our students’ positive impact. These moments are a testament to the values we uphold as a school community.

Thank you all for your continued support and commitment to our school. Let’s continue to work together to make the rest of the term as successful and rewarding as the first half has been.
Warm regards
Dr Lucie McCrory
