Term 3 has seen a burst of musical activity at Mercedes! With performances every week, the Music Department has seen ensembles and soloists perform in the Catholic Performing Arts Festival, WA Schools’ Senior and Junior Band and Orchestra Festivals, WA Schools’ Jazz Festival, WA Classical Guitar Ensemble Festival, Music Recital Night, Music Eisteddfod, Music Showcase and Forrest Place Concert.
The Select Choir, Vocal Ensemble, Mercedes/Trinity Chorale, Mercedes/Trinity Wind Orchestra, Mercedes/Trinity Wind Ensemble and Mercedes/Trinity String Orchestra received ‘Outstanding’ awards in Catholic Performing Arts, with Wind Orchestra and String Orchestra being awarded the Shield in their respective categories.
Our busy term saw all large and senior ensembles perform at UWA’s magnificent Winthrop Hall in our biggest Music Showcase yet. The evening culminated in a combined choral and symphony orchestra version of ‘Ameno’, an arrangement written especially for us.
All of these performances would not have been possible without the immense efforts of Music staff, and I would like to thank them for bringing such admirable work ethic, inspiration and passion to the Music Department every day.
