The College community gathered at the Perth Concert Hall for a night of celebration last Friday at the Mercedes College Presentation Evening, where students were acknowledged for their academic and co-curricular achievements. The night showcased performances from current students and Alumni, we also heard from special guest speakers and farewelled the Class of 2021. It was truly a night to remember!
On Friday 22 October, Mercedes College celebrated their high achievers at the Perth Concert Hall, with the Mercedes house banners proudly displayed and the 175 numbers lighting up the stage to commemorate the College’s humble beginnings 175 years ago. Our Year 7 students represented our College community, as they sat elegantly above the stage, waiting for their musical performance tribute to the Year 12s.
The evening commenced with Year 11 student Caitlin Ryan who was the mc. She spoke with great gusto, after being mentored by our talented Speech Tutor, Mrs Gina Ritchie.
After the welcome, followed a beautifully sung rendition of the National Anthem led by Ella Simpson and College Anthem led by Hannah Reader. The Jazz Band were next and performed Alfred James Ellis’ “The Chicken”, accompanied by Mr Paul Waterhouse.

2021 was quite a significant year, as recapped in Mr Glenn Heaton’s film – “175 years of Mercedes College – our history and our present”. Following the film, nine past Head Girls and Deputy’s were welcomed to the stage, each of which represented a decade in Mercedes College history. The Alumni in attendance included: Moya Hextall, Jennifer Stratton, Anne Travers, Carol Mitchell, Grazia Redolatti, Brianna Walpole, Charlotte Pittman, Kate FitzSimons, and Ellie Narducci. The Mercedes College Alumni Choir made up of ex-students from 2008 to 2020, also performed the beautiful A Capella piece “Crabbuckit” directed by Mrs Claire Waterhouse. We thank all past Alumni for attending and making this year so special.

During the night, respective year level awards were presented to students in recognition of their outstanding achievement in the areas of academic and co-curricular studies.
The evening concluded with the long awaited announcement of Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl for 2022. Congratulations to Ellouise Panebianco who was selected to represent Mercedes College as Head Girl and to Niamh Gismondi who will be her deputy.
A special mention of thanks to all the staff and students involved in the Presentation Evening for 2021 and a special thanks to our community for coming along and celebrating the night.
