Mercedes College has a full-time Counsellor and a part-time Psychologist who provide a range of services to support the educational, emotional, and personal wellbeing of students within the College community.
The Mercedes College Wellbeing Team works closely with the Principal and staff to help design and safely deliver each student’s educational program. The Team provides students with a supportive and confidential space to discuss any concerns they may be experiencing. These may include stress, friendship or family issues, sleep difficulties, or developing more effective study habits.
Students may be referred to the Wellbeing Team through their Head of Year. The Wellbeing Team support students by helping them develop new skills, build resilience, and work through challenges more effectively. Students can access up to six counselling sessions, although many concerns are resolved in fewer sessions. Where additional support is needed, the Counsellor or Psychologist may recommend seeking external services beyond the school setting.
Accessing counselling is always the student’s choice, and students may decide to discontinue sessions at any time. However, choosing not to participate may limit the potential benefits counselling can provide. As part of the College’s commitment to student learning and wellbeing, counselling services are offered at no additional cost to families.
