From the Principal: Term 3, Week 4 2025

Principal Report

Dear Mercedes College Families

As we settle firmly into Term 3, I want to take this opportunity to reflect on the vibrant energy and commitment that continues to define our Mercedes College community. The past two weeks have been filled with moments of learning, creativity, and connection that highlight the strengths of our students and staff.

One of the standout highlights was our spectacular production of Legally Blonde: The Musical at The Regal Theatre. Our talented cast and crew delivered four exceptional performances, captivating sold-out audiences with their skill, enthusiasm, and teamwork. This production was a shining example of the creativity and excellence we foster at Mercedes College. I would like to extend a special thank you to Mrs Cocks for her incredible 17-year commitment to leading our College Musicals. Her dedication has inspired generations of performers and helped build a lasting legacy in the Arts here at Mercedes. I also warmly thank the entire cast, crew, production team, and families for their passion and support throughout the musical production.

Last Friday, our Year 8 students participated in a meaningful day with Catherine Kolomyjec from Soul Gestures Inc., focusing on building a compassionate culture. They explored self-compassion, forgiveness, and personal values, and raised awareness of global injustices. Each group selected a human rights issue they felt strongly about and began planning their Fierce Compassion Projects, advocating for change within our school community. We are proud of how our students embraced the Mercy value of Justice and we look forward to seeing their projects unfold throughout the term.

Recently, our House Liturgies brought students together in beautiful celebrations centered on the theme of Hope. Each girl held a candle, symbolising God’s presence and the light of faith. Students also created mandalas as meditative reflections of this divine light. We were honoured to welcome Past Principal, Sister Mollie, to Wright House’s liturgy, whose inspiring legacy as a Sister of Mercy brought special grace to the gathering.

We also hosted Paul Dillon, a nationally recognised expert in drug and alcohol education. His engaging sessions with students in Years 10 to 12 provided vital knowledge on risk-taking, mental health, and safe socialising, equipping our students with practical tools for making informed and confident decisions.

Languages Week was a lively and colourful celebration of Italian and French culture, filled with games, food, and activities that brought the joy of language learning to life. Our thanks go to the staff and students who helped make the week so memorable.

On the sporting front, our Year 11 and 12 Volleyball Team reached a significant milestone by competing in the semi-finals of the WA Junior Volleyball League, a first for Mercedes College. Their teamwork and determination have made us proud, and we look forward to their future achievements.

Currently, we are in the midst of National Science Week and Humanities and Social Science Week, which continues to inspire curiosity and engagement across the College.

Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support and involvement in our vibrant school community.

Warm Regards,

Dr Lucie McCrory
