Dear Mercedes College Families,
Welcome to the middle of Term 2. During this time, we especially keep our Year 11 and 12 students front of mind as they navigate their Semester Examinations. Mid Term typically sees all students embrace clusters of assessments across subjects and it has been wonderful to see our students continuing to take on opportunities outside the classroom that challenge, inspire, and connect them. Maintaining balance in different areas of life is a fundamental part of caring for our wellbeing.
This week, our College proudly stands in support of National Reconciliation Week and the 2026 theme of All In. The theme is a reminder that reconciliation is an ongoing commitment requiring collective responsibility, meaningful action, and continued learning from all Australians. Throughout the week, students have participated in Reconciliation-focused lessons and activities, reflecting on how they can personally contribute to reconciliation within both our College community and wider society. These conversations and experiences form part of our continued commitment to fostering understanding, respect, and connection to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, and perspectives throughout the year.
Our Year 9 students have continued participating in the much-loved Mercedes College ballroom dancing program alongside students from Trinity College. As an embedded part of the Her Compass Program, the experience encourages students to develop communication skills, confidence, and respectful relationships while stepping outside their comfort zones in a supportive environment. Complementing this learning, students recently participated in a relationship education workshop with sexuality educator Annika Holland. We look forward to the culmination of this unit next week as they celebrate with their Ballroom Social.
Last Tuesday, Year 10 students participated in the Futures Expo, an important opportunity to begin exploring the transition into the senior years of WACE and life beyond Mercedes College. Through presentations from College leadership, staff and conversations with universities and post-secondary providers, students gained valuable insight into course selection, future pathways, and the opportunities available to them in Years 11 and 12 and beyond. As students begin considering these important decisions, we encourage them to approach this next stage with confidence and curiosity, knowing they are supported with the guidance, resources, and opportunities needed to make informed choices for the significant and formative years ahead.

The Arts continue to thrive at Mercedes College, and we congratulate our Dance students on their exceptional achievements at the Dance Life Competition. Students demonstrated incredible teamwork, dedication, and stage presence, earning numerous outstanding results across troupe, trio, and solo performances. We extend sincere thanks to Miss Taylor Robinson, Miss Emily Hunt, and Mrs. Jo Driscoll for their commitment and support of our students and the Dance program.
Students have continued to demonstrate leadership and community spirit through initiatives such as Pizza with Prefects, where Year 9 and 10 Student Representatives collaborated with the Year 12 Prefects to discuss important topics including wellbeing, student relationships, and College life. Similarly, students participating in the ACC Inclusive Education Fun Run enjoyed valuable opportunities to connect with peers from other schools while engaging in movement and teamwork in a positive, inclusive environment.

We are also incredibly excited to see the momentum building towards the Mercedes College Ponytail Project 2026. This year marks our fifth year participating in the Cancer Council Ponytail Project, with 40 courageous students preparing to “rock the chop” in support of Australians impacted by cancer. Students will be fundraising for vital cancer research support services and will be donating their ponytails to create wigs for those undergoing treatment. Already, the generosity shown by our College community has been extraordinary, with the Mercedes College Ponytail Project 2026 Team surpassing its $20,000 fundraising goal with just under a month remaining until the event. We sincerely thank all families, friends, and community members who have contributed to both the College campaign and individual student fundraisers so far. We warmly invite our community to continue supporting this incredible cause via Mercedes College Ponytail Project 2026. We look forward to sharing more of our students’ inspiring stories and the impact of their fundraising efforts across our social media channels in the weeks ahead.
Congratulations to our Cross Country Team who competed in the A Division ACC event today. We are pleased to annouce we had outstanding results, , we look forward to sharing images and results in the coming weeks.
We are looking forward to the College Production later this year of Beauty and the Beast the Musical. Tickets are selling fast, get in quick to secure a fun event with family and friends at the Regal Theatre in Subiaco from Friday 21 – 23 August.
As we continue through the term, I thank our students, staff, and families for the energy, encouragement, and support they bring to our community each day. It is through these shared experiences, conversations, and opportunities that we continue to nurture confident, compassionate, and capable young women who are prepared to contribute meaningfully to the world around them.
Warm regards,
Dr Lucie McCrory
