Principal’s Report: Reflection, Renewal, and Celebration – Lenten Season, House Arts Day, and Cabaret Night | 6 April 2023

Posted on 06/04/2023

Our last week of term coincides with Holy Week.  Each of the days in Holy Week has a special focus, leading us to Easter Sunday which celebrates Jesus’ Resurrection from the dead and the triumph of good over evil.  I hope the Lenten period has been an opportunity for your family to strengthen and renew your relationship with God.  As a school we held our Easter Liturgy this morning, giving everyone an opportunity to reflect on their Lenten journey and to gain a deeper understanding of the importance of Easter.

House Arts Day

On Monday we were treated to a fantastic House Arts Day concert celebrating the theme of ‘bloom’. I am amazed every year at the talent of our students and the leadership displayed by senior students responsible for everything – producing, directing, choreographing and rehearsing.  The students worked efficiently on preparation days to ensure all was completed ready for the afternoon’s concert where their achievements were on display.  Thank you to all staff involved, particularly Mrs Cocks and the Arts Department and House Teacher Leaders, the senior students who demonstrated outstanding leadership throughout the preparation sessions and all students involved in this event.  For me, the highlight of House Arts Day is that everyone is involved, students and staff.  It creates such unity, enthusiasm and gratitude to be part of the Mercedes College Community.

Cabaret Night

On Wednesday evening we enjoyed Cabaret Night, Downstairs at the Maj.  It was an evening of ‘standards and showtunes’ featuring the Vocal Ensemble in a showcase of solos and duets.  Once again, the talent of our students impressed.  It was also an opportunity for them to be accompanied by a professional trio in a unique performance space.

Thanks to families for contributing to the money raised through Frog Jog.  It is one of our major fundraising events for Mercy Works.  May the Lord’s Easter gift of peace and hope bring joy to your family.  Have a safe and happy school vacation with time to rest and connect with loved ones.

Kind regards
Mrs Kerrie Fraser
