The Mercedes community are thrilled to welcome returning students back to the start of a new school year! We hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday season and is ready for a successful term ahead, with 2023 promising to be filled with exciting opportunities, challenges and new experiences.
We were also delighted to welcome our Class of 2022 back to the College for our Excellence Assembly and Graduate Sundowner on Tuesday 31 January, where we celebrate the incredible academic achievements of our newest alumni.
As announced in January, the College achieved some outstanding results in 2022, and this event was a fitting celebration of the hard work and dedication of the students.

Deputy Principal of Teaching and Learning, Kirsty Murphy opened the assembly, welcoming graduates and congratulating them on their accomplishments. One of the highlights of the assembly was the keynote speech by fashion designer Steph Audino (Class of 2007), an alumna of Mercedes College, who spoke to students about the different and surprising pathways people take towards success.
Our Heads of Learning Area then presented high-achieving graduates with their awards. These awards recognized students who achieved SCSA Certificates of Merit, Distinction and Subject Certificates of Excellence. Staff, students and families were excited to hear of the pathways these students will be following, with many achieving scholarships and entry into Honours and postgraduate programs.
2022 College Dux Evie Wells, and Proxime Accessit Caitlin Ryan spoke on behalf of the graduates, sharing their gratitude for the support of their families and the Mercedes community (as well as a few tips for younger students to help them in their own journeys!).

The College community also recognised Year 11 student Isabella, who last year won the Grand Final of the Rotary Four-Way Test public speaking competition. A big thank you to Maree Gooch, President of the Perth Rotary Club, and Manu Gupta, the Director of Perth Rotary’s Youth Services, who attended to congratulate and present Isabella with her trophies!
Following the assembly, the Class of 2022 was invited to celebrate at the Graduate Sundowner, where they received their copy of the Laudate 2022 College Annual and reconnected with their peers.
The assembly was a fitting tribute to the hard work and achievements of the Class of 2022, as they embark on the next chapter of their lives. We look forward to seeing the amazing things these graduates will accomplish in the future!
