Dear Parent/Carer
Further to my previous COVID-19 communications, you may have seen the announcement by the Premier of the high caseload settings in place across WA as of Tuesday 8 February 2022. This includes additional measures to help keep our school open and providing face-to-face learning to your daughter/s.
Parents and carers can continue to drop-off and pick-up their daughters but are not permitted to enter classrooms. If you need to access the College Wear Shop please make an appointment and enter through the Hay Street gate.
As a result of the Premier’s communication, we are currently planning and implementing further ways to minimise the risk of COVID-19 entering or being transmitted at Mercedes including:
• moving parent-teacher interviews to online or over the phone
• changing indoor face-to-face events
• no choirs or orchestras are to meet face-to-face
• cancelling or postponing school camps
• limiting the mingling of groups
Parent Information Evening
These meetings can no longer be facilitated onsite and will move to an online forum. Details will be provided closer to the date.
Co-Curricular Sport Changes
To reduce the number of students in small venues and reduce the likelihood of students mixing students from other year groups, the following changes to the co-curricular schedule have been made:
Swim Club has now changed to:
• Monday – Year 7 & 8 only
• Wednesday – Year 9 & 10 only
• Friday – Year 11 & 12 only
Fitness centre has now changed to:
• Tuesday PM – Year 11 & 12 only
• Thursday AM – Year 9 & 10 only
SASJ trials on Wednesday 9 February (tomorrow) have been cancelled. At this stage SASJ and ACC Basketball trials will go ahead on other days, however more information will be shared regarding these competitions as it comes to light.
For more information on the high caseload protocols visit WA.gov.au.
Thank you for your understanding as we take the necessary steps to keep Mercedes College a safe environment and open for learning. I know our students will be disappointed with some changes that have to be implemented but our key focus is on providing a safe environment where your daughters can attend classes for face-to-face learning.
Kind regards,
Mrs Kerrie Fraser
