Rowing Returns

Posted on 21/05/2021

A great new sport program began last term with the re-introduction of rowing at Mercedes. In conjunction with the West Australian Rowing Club (a 152-year-old club), the girls train twice a week after school at the historic Barrack Square headquarters. The girls who elected to have a go, participated in the ‘Try Rowing’ days late last term. The Tryout days included running, rowing on land machines (ergos), riding stationary bikes and of course the water tryouts. A total of 16 girls have been selected and are now under the guidance of Head Coach; Joe Tamigi.

The students competed in their first All Schools Regatta at Canning Bridge, in what was challenging conditions. We are extremely proud of their sportsmanship and determination displayed on and off the water and are excited to see their skills improve over the course of the year. They look forward at competing at these upcoming events:

    • All Schools Regatta 1 Saturday 15/5/21 Term 2 End of Week 4
    • All Schools Regatta 2 Sunday 30/5/21 Term 2 End of Week 6
    • All Schools Regatta 3 Saturday 5/6/21 Term 2 End of Week 7
    • All Schools State Championships Saturday 19/6/21 Term 2 End of Week 9
