Congratulations to two of our Year 12 students; Anne Marie Fitzgerald and Mu Yang Zhou and the Year 12 Prefects for their wonderful fundraising effort for the Ponytail Project in WA. Throughout the year the girls grew their hair as long as possible, alongside peers all across Australia, before coming together on Wednesday 5 May for the #chopforchange event. Forty seven students and a teacher took their seats in the school hall and over lunch saw their locks drop into their hands. They raised more than $12000 and took out places 4th to 10th on the individual fundraising leader board in WA, and in Australia Mercedes College is SECOND overall in teams – a great effort! All funds raised go towards essential cancer support services, prevention programs and lifesaving research. This means everything from transport to get cancer patients to and from their medical appointments, to assisting childcare facilities to keep kids safe from the sun.
