Mercedes chess club started in 2002 and had its first Inter-school chess competition in 2003. The club was initiated by Mrs. Ryan (library) and Mr. Grigg (IT and Maths). The school has taken part in the Inter-school competition every year since 2003. Inter-house and lightning competitions were introduced in the following years.
