The visual arts by their nature enrich the lives of individuals and the society. Art is a means by which people communicate with one another in a visual form, passing on values of the past and present that help generate a sense of identity. Head of Learning Area Mrs Kathleen Cocks | Year 7 | Art This is an introductory course to secondary Art studies. Students are taught a broad course including painting, textiles, clay. | Year 8 | Art Students become familiar with a range of studio areas such as drawing, painting (acrylics and watercolours), ceramics, textiles and printmaking. They engage in art appreciation by being introduced to the work of specific artists and art styles which they use as inspiration for their own work. | Year 9 | Art Students develop artworks based on experiences of the self and observations of the immediate environment. Studio areas – textiles, painting, sculpture, graphic design, and printmaking. Research of artists and styles of art is undertaken to expand their knowledge of skills and techniques. | Year 10 | Art Students learn how to apply new analytical and production skills and techniques in the communication of their own ideas and artworks. Studio areas – portrait painting, printmaking, ceramic sculpture, textiles, graphic design. Formal art appreciation technique is learnt and applied to the study of Post Modern art. | Year 11 | Year 11 VISUAL ARTS 2A and 2BEach of these units is designed around the same content areas Art making and Art interpretation which increase in complexity from one unit to the next. The focus for unit 2A is Differences, with the theme being ‘Of the Animal’nt-family: "Calibri","sans-serif""> Inspiration is derived from an excursion to the zoo and the study of the work of Australian artist Brett Whiteley and graffiti artist Banksy. The focus for unit 2B is Identities, the theme being ‘The Psychological Self: Dreams and Desires’. Work will evolve from the study of Surrealism, reality and illusion. Each unit undertaken has three major assessment types: Investigation:Case studies involving research and visual analysis focused on visual arts practice. Visual arts practice and theories of Australian and/or international are examined by way of case studies with consideration of historical, cultural and contextual factors influencing production and interpretation. Production: A body of work (may consist of a variety of studio areas such as drawings, paintings, collage, mixed media) that incorporates resolved artwork/s and documentation of thinking and working practices. This may be in the painting Critical Analysis:Response to, analysis and evaluation of artworks. Year 11 Dimensional Design Course Unit 1A Focus: Design Basics Unit 1 B Focus: Applied Design | | | | Year 12 | Year 12 TEE ART Students choose one studio area for three projects that evolve from the visual inquiry of sketches, drawings, ideas and design development. The themes for 2009 consist of a still life project titled ‘Table top – Connectivity’ in term one, term two landscape artwork titled ‘Forgotten Places’ and term three a portrait project titled ‘Celebrity’. Assessment is based on the Visual Diary, Studio and art history. The art history themes for this year consist of International art - Dada and Surrealism, Australian Art – | Year 11 VISUAL ARTS 2A and 2B Each of these units is designed around the same content areas Art making and Art interpretation which increase in complexity from one unit to the next.
