|  The Drama course offers students an opportunity to develop confidence in communication in individual and group situations , and to enrich their lives by satisfying the need for creative and imaginative outlets for expression. It caters for a wide range of students in a course which is both practical and fun. | All students in year 7 undertake Drama for 1 period per week for the whole year. Typical tasks include: Fairy tale mime and a student devised rap advertising Mercedes. | Year 8 | All students in year 8 undertake Drama for 1 semester. Typical tasks include: improvisation and Theatre Sports as well as Ritual and Mask Making. | Year 9 | Drama is an elective in Year 9 and runs 2 periods a week for the whole year. Typical tasks include: Slapstick comedy, Commedia dell ‘Arte, Improvisation, Playbuilding and Scripted Monologues. | Year 10 | Drama is an elective in year 10 and runs 2 period s a week for the whole year, or an extension class is offered of 4 periods per week. Typical tasks include: Special effects make-up, Stage fighting, Musical Theatre, Scripted Performance, Absurdism and Self Devised Monologue. | Year 11 & Year 12 | Stage One in year 11 followed by Stage Two in year 12 is appropriate for students who intend to follow a vocational pathway or plan to continue their studies at TAFE. Stage Two in year 11 followed by Stage Three in year 12 is appropriate for students using Drama for university entry after year 12. | Associated Co-curricula activities | School Musical; Every year Mercedes presents a full school Musical. Students are selected from all age groups and a cast and crew of over 100 students work hard to produce a thoroughly entertaining performance. House Drama Festival; Year 11 students, audition, cast, direct, costume and produce a 20 minute scripted production. Each House is represented with a cast of over 20 students from all year groups. House Dance Festival; Year 12 students, audition, cast, choreograph, costume and produce a 15 minute performance incorporating different styles of Dance, focussed around an issue or theme. Each House is represented with a cast of over 20 students from all year groups. Year 12 Plays; Year 12 students produce a full length Scripted Play. Costumes and sets are created and students perform to an audience. This activity is part of the Year 12 Drama course and students are assessed on their performance. NIDA Tour; Year 12 Drama students have the opportunity to spend a week of their Easter Holidays in Sydney, participating in performance workshops at NIDA. Students attend theatre productions of an evening, and take advantage of sight seeing and shopping trips. | | | | |
