HTML Source EditorWord wrap Year 10 Information The year 10 Careers Program at Mercedes College runs for one lesson per semester, to introduce students to the concept of career development and assist them with subject choice for senior school. Year 10 students will have the opportunity to undertake research tasks and activities in a supervised class situation which will provide preliminary information about career goals and pathways. Year 10 Career Education Course Aims: These encompass the eleven competencies of the Australian Blueprint for Career Development: ;· Build and maintain a positive self image ;· Interact positively and effectively with others ;· Change and grow throughout life ;· Participate in lifelong learning ;· Locate and effectively use career information ;· Understand the relationship between work, society and the environment ;· Secure and maintain work ;· Make career enhancing decisions ;· Maintain balanced work and life roles ;· Understand the nature of life and work roles ;· Understand, engage in and manage the career building process
Year 11 and 12 In planning a program of subjects for years 11 & 12, students use a variety of resources including the Job Guide and other web based resources such as the My Future program. Some occupations require courses which have pre requisite subjects at year 12 level. These can be checked by viewing http://www.tisc.edu.au/ and following the links to “University Admissions 2010”. A Career Mentor’s Breakfast is held annually where students are given the opportunity to interact with representatives from a wide range of occupations. Members of MESA are invited to be presenters on this occasion. Vocational Education & Training Vocational Education and Training refers to a system that enables secondary students to complete some form of vocational training as part of the West Australian Certificate of Education. Students at Mercedes College students may complete Certificate courses under the Australian Qualifications Framework . Units of competency are embedded in certain subjects for example, students completing Workplace Learning 1a & 1b also complete units of study for the Certificate 1 in Workplace Preparation. Opportunities also exist for students to attend Central TAFE one day a week to undertake higher level certificates in certain areas (for example, Certificate II in Financial Services, Certificate II in Make Up, Certificate III in Children’s Services) Successful completion of Workplace Learning enables students to gain both on the job and off the job training.
