Parents and Friends' PDF Print

The Mercedes College P & F are very blessed with having a very strong parent group who bring with them a fantastic community spirit.

The P & F meet at 7.00pm in the College Staffroom every second Tuesday of each month except the school holidays.  Meetings are open to any parent at the College who wants to attend with the AGM held in February of each year.

Meetings are held to discuss a variety of Social and Fundraising activities that are held at the College.  Although our aim is to raise funds which help improve and maintain facilities at the College, we also have a number of social activites throughout the year.

Some of the events that the P & F are involved in are, Open Day.  On this day, the College is open to welcome future and potential students and parents to the College.  As part of the welcoming process, the P & F run a free sausage sizzle for everyone who attends.  Other events are the Bi Annual Fete where the whole school has the opportunity to be involved.  This has always proven to be a great Community Building event and is enjoyed by all.  The Father/Daughter and Mother/Daughter camps, Quiz Night, Spring in The Valley, a Footy Tipping Competition and Homeroom Link social activities are other events that take place annually.

The Parents and Friends' Association is an important part of the Mercedes College structure and is a valuable instrument in the important Church Apostolate of education.

The aims of the P & F iinclude the following:-

  • Strive to develop at the school a real community of parents, teachers and students, which reflects a truly Christian ethos;
  • Work closely with the School, and in particular with the school Principal, who is the leader of the school community, to achieve common goals;
  • Ensure that a high level of social and educational interaction exists between home and school, parents and teachers; Endeavour to have all parents enjoy the exciting experience of their children's formal school years by active participation and personal involvement in the school programs;
  • Provide a healthy forum for ideas and discussion on any relevant issue that will benefit the education of the children;
  • Assist in planning and organising functions associated with the social, sporting, cultural and educational life of the school community;
  • Work to provide additional resources which are considered necessary for the children or to assist the teachers in their professional work. Whilst this role has been and will continue to be very important in Catholic schools, it should not be the only function of the Parents and Friends' Association, which should ensure that its activities extend into the above areas as well.
