Rhythmic Gymnastics is a beautiful and precise Olympic sport – a combination of gymnastics, ballet and modern dance. Gymnasts compete on a mat floor area using hand apparatus such as rope, hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon. Through this sport gymnasts are taught body awareness and control together with developing musicality and creativity. These skills in turn help gymnasts promote self-confidence, coordination, strength and flexibility. Rhythmic Gymnastics is increasing in popularity amongst girls of all ages, especially girls with a dance, music, or ballet background. Mercedes College has a fully accredited and affiliated gymnastics club operating through the school and is offering potential students the opportunity to join the club prior to attending the College in secondary school. The Club has accredited and appropriately trained coaches and trainee coaches and gymnasts may train at any level - just for recreation; to enter into displays and Gymfest events; to enter school competitions only; or to compete in State competitions. No previous experience or special skills are required to participate in this College Rhythmic program. Girls do not need to purchase their own equipment as apparatus is supplied by the Club for use during sessions. | | | | | Programme Coordinator Mrs Gina Frost | |
